PUTTING WOMEN AT THE CENTRE OF STUDENT NIGHTLIFE
POWERCUT FTGSEASON 223/11/2025

On Sunday 23 November 2025, Powercut brought For The Girls to Rubix at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Every DJ and every member of staff hired by Powercut for the event was female. JEENIIUS became the first female person of colour to headline Rubix as a DJ, marking a milestone for representation at the venue. Our final event of 2025 began with feedback from women attending Powercut. Some felt our nights were becoming too intense. We took that seriously, replacing our original event concept with FTG and building the night around the feedback they shared. The changes went beyond the event’s name and artwork. We moved our planned Friday night to a Sunday and reconsidered who would shape the music, deliver the event and document it. Rodlin Chez curated the all-female DJ lineup, joining JEENIIUS, KSHA and Jasmine G. JEENIIUS headlined a bill spanning Bashment, Dancehall, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Trap, R&B and House. Rodlin Chez’s curation gave the DJs space to bring their own musical identities to the programme. Female representation extended behind the scenes: every member of staff we hired was a woman, including photographer @shotbykayleigh, who captured the night. All DJ sets were well paid, with travel included. Our commitment meant creating paid opportunities and placing women in charge of the event’s musical direction. Pre-edited content was also shared with the DJs on the night itself for use on their own promotional channels, extending our support beyond their sets. For FTG, Powercut introduced a 360-degree DJ stage on the Rubix dancefloor, replacing the usual main-stage setup. The audience could gather around the decks, bringing the performers into the centre of the room. The expectations for the night were equally deliberate: no mosh pits, freedom to dress how you wanted and respect for the people around you. Feedback from women in our audience guided the night’s design, with those expectations applying to everyone attending. For The Girls shows how Powercut can use a commercial event to support a wider purpose. Audience feedback led to changes in programming, paid opportunities for women, female creative leadership and a landmark headline booking. It remains an example of our willingness to put resources behind the people and communities we want our events to serve.

Powercut's First Halloween Night Sells Out
POWERCUT'S FIRST HALLOWEEN NIGHT SELLS OUT
POWERCUT 5.0SEASON 224/10/2025

Powercut Halloween brought dark fantasy and raw, manic energy to Rubix a week before Halloween night - and 1,200 people showed up for it. The crowd matched the theme, with standout Halloween costumes across the board adding to the atmosphere and visual energy of the night. The event featured the Surrey debut of Chef Dee, a recognised name in the UK underground scene and a standout addition to the lineup. Rodlin-Chez opened the night before Senses and Chef Dee took over, trading sets back and forth - Senses, Chef Dee, Senses, Chef Dee building the intensity with every handover. Aggressive, unfiltered, and exactly the kind of energy that separates Powercut from every other student night in Surrey.

POWERCUT 4.0SEASON 226/09/2025

Powercut returned for its second year with 'Purple Rain' - Friday After Freshers - and immediately set a new benchmark for student nightlife at the University of Surrey. The event became the best-selling and highest-grossing night in the history of Rubix, selling out all 1,550 tickets. Guest list was held at the door until every ticket holder had entered, and the on-door queue was still deep at 2AM - just one hour before close. The lineup featured Trezzor, Senses, TR Gobrazy as a special guest artist, TiiaKJ, Tricz, and Ariies. Powercut also debuted a completely reworked design system for its second season - an original poster style and visual identity that has since been replicated by promoters across London and the UK. What Powercut originated in its promotional design is now widely imitated beyond the university scene. Six months away changed nothing. If anything, it proved that Powercut's hold on nightlife had only grown stronger.

Our Fastest-Selling Night Yet at Surrey University
OUR FASTEST-SELLING NIGHT YET AT SURREY UNIVERSITY
POWERCUT 3.0SEASON 121/02/2025

Powercut 3 reaffirmed our ability to deliver unmatched nightlife experiences - proving that the success of our first two events was no fluke. As our fastest-selling and biggest production yet, this third installment cemented Powercut’s reputation for consistent, high-energy entertainment on the Surrey University campus. The lineup was our most expansive yet, featuring Trezzor, Rodlin-Chez, HeySenses, and special guest MrIamNext. Rodlin-Chez made a triumphant return with a stunning hour-long set from 1 to 2 a.m., while Senses upped the ante by bringing out concert veteran MrIamNext to close the night. The crowd’s energy was so intense that, in the final ten minutes, the music had to shift to Bruno Mars just to bring the atmosphere under control before close. By the end of the night, Powercut 3 was the ultimate proof that lightning can strike twice - and even a third time - when driven by unwavering dedication and a passion for delivering the best possible student nightlife experience.

POWERCUT 2.0SEASON 108/11/2024

Following the triumph of our inaugural event, we aimed not just to replicate September’s energy but to elevate the entire university nightlife experience. Powercut 2 once again surpassed expectations, shining the spotlight on fresh talent and introducing renowned names to Surrey University. Under Trezzor’s careful curation, the lineup welcomed @HeySenses, gifted videographer @TediousVisuals, and marked the Rubix Stage debut of home-grown DJ ‘SoundsBySyrus.’ Opening for Trezzor, building a crowd from scratch of more than 1,000 people at peak energy. For the promotional build-up, we developed another entirely new visual campaign from scratch. Drawing on Maximalist design principles - heavily influenced by the works of LTJ Bukem and the ‘Soft Gen X Club’ aesthetic - the poster demanded attention amidst the usual flurry of Canva-based flyers. Although the creative process was frenetic, the final result was a true one-of-a-kind piece. The post-event response confirmed Powercut’s status as the people’s champion in Surrey. Rave reviews poured in, and the social media buzz soared to levels unheard of for such a modestly followed account. Untagged videos of Powercut, uploaded by TikTok special guest Ali K, garnered over 700,000 views - an explosion of online interest that reverberated far beyond the university scene, signaling yet another game-changing moment for Powercut.

Powercut emerged in September 2024 with a strong/provocative phrase of #powercuttakeover. With vivid, timeless artwork, promised a grand launch event headlined by Trezzor (@TrezzorForever). A pioneer figure of events that were the foundation of the UK scene. Powercut was everywhere, thousands of quality print, featuring powercut in-house artwork embellished the Surrey Campuses and surrounding areas. Strongly interconnected to digital campaign introducing Surrey to their new guest DJ’s. Surrey had never seen a rollout like this before. Surrey ACS, led by elected President Angel, was a powerhouse in promotion, acting as the main promotional partner. Powercut provided a revolution in experience for the 24/25 intake, at a new phase of life, after joining university. DJ Rodlin-Chez, (afrobeats specialist), made a fantastic debut on the launch event sandwiched between Trezzor’s open and closing set. On the Thursday night of the 26th of September, new life came to campus, a cross campus queue formed, spanning from the venue Rubix, all the way to the lecture theatre. To the surprise of many, the event sold out, not only lapping expectations, but reshaping the entire nightlife industry in Surrey for months to come. Once inside Rubix, the dancefloor was completely packed out until close, rife with energy, dancing, and singing the entire time. At close, the dancefloor was completely packed, students refused to leave. A testament to the quality of Trezzor on his debut headline, and his synergy with a crowd amassing 1550 people.’
